The painting "St. Sophia with her daughters" was painted in 1869 by Wojciech Eljasz (1814/1815-1904), a Cracovian painter. The church in Osielec also boasts his other paintings, placed in the side altars: "St. Philip and St. James", "St. Nicholas" and "St. Michael the Archangel". Saint Sophia was a widow from Milan, who apparently arrived in Rome with her daughters during the reign of emperor Hadrian (2nd century), converting pagans to Christianity. Sophia's daughters named Faith (Fides), Hope (Spes)
and Charity (Caritas) became the personifications of theological virtues. Their medieval cult established a sense of martyrdom associated with their lives.
