A statuette of Michael the Archangel originates from the original altar of the Transfiguration (before 1747) which was destroyed in 1914. In 1929, the altar was reconstructed, using preserved elements of the previous reredos, including the sculpture in question. Saint Michael the Archangel was a leader of the choir of angels, who defeated Lucifer during the revolt of the angels. He is portrayed in the clothing of a soldier, usually in the scene of his triumph over Satan.
