Before 1747, the painting was created for the finial of the side altar of St. Joseph. Saint Lawrence was one of the deacons of Pope Sixtus II, which is why he is portrayed in iconography in attire corresponding to this position. During the persecution of Christians, he was captured and burnt on an grid-iron, thus it is his attribute.
