The statues of four evangelists were created before 1748, together with the high altar. Their production is attributed to the workshop of Kornecki – the likely creator of all furnishings of the church in Gdów. Saint Matthew was a publican who was chosen by Jesus as one of his disciples. He was the author of the first Gospel. In iconography, he is frequently portrayed with a book and an image of a man in the company of four other evangelists.
