Abstract

The statue of St. Francis, together with the sculpture of St. Bonaventure, was created along with the side altar under the original invocation of St. Anthony, before 1748. Their production is attributed to the workshop of Kornecki – the likely creator of all furnishings of the church in Gdów. In iconography, Saint Francis is portrayed in a Franciscan habit, with a tonsure on his head. He was the founder of a new religious community – Friars Minor, and the author of its rule, approved in 1209.
