Abstract

The painting was undoubtedly created for a new high altar, created between 1742 and 1747, as a sliding panel for the miraculous image of Madonna of Grab from the 17th century. Its formal characteristics indicate that it might have been made by Łukasz Orłowski. It depicts Our Lady of Immaculate Conception and the Child, who is holding a flag denoting victory over original sin, thus this image was also called Madonna della Vittoria.
