The author of the work and the exact date of its creation remain unknown. The painting might have been made at a similar time as the main reredos in the church in Harklowa, that is in the 18th century. The painting in question depicts a martyred Christ in a type defined in the history of art as Ecce Homo ("Behold the man"). It is a representation of the Passion character, namely the one relating to the Passion of Christ.
