The 20th-century painting with the representation of Ecce Homo is an echo of a modern approach to this theme with a reducing composition limited to the image of Jesus. The half-statue of the Saviour depicted after flagellation, in a crown of thorns, with a reed in his hand and covered only with a cloak is to emphasise his desolation and suffering, and to cause compassion and stimulate piety.
