History of work

According to tradition, the church of Saint Elisabeth in Trybsz was built in 1567. This information was found on the side of the old, masonry altar. At that time, it was a branch temple of the parish in Frydman. Almost one hundred years later, thanks to Father Jan Ratułowski, the parish priest of Frydman and Trybsz at the time, who renovated the temple, the interior was decorated with paintings illustrating the truths of the faith. This took place in 1647 and is confirmed by the inscription on the card, originally hung over the pulpit, currently stored in the Museum at the Department of History of Art at the Jagiellonian University. The text was also recorded in the Parish Chronicle in 1830 and in the work of Tadeusz Szablowski: „ A CHRISTO NATO DÑO MILLESIMVS / BISQVE TREGENTENVS LVSTRA NOVEMQVE FLVVNT / BRVMAQVE BIS GLACIE FLVVIIS INCARCERAT VNDAS / QVANDO COLORE NITENS REDDITVR ISTA DOMVS / INDOCTE PLEBI PAROCHO DICTANTE IOANNE / RATVLOVICIO DOGMATA SARCA POLI / HOC EST / DEPICTA EST ISTA ECCLESIA MOTORE / MAGISTRO IOANNE RATVŁOWSKI EIVSDEM PRO TEMPORE / PROVT ET FRIDMANESNSIS ECCLESIAE / PAROCHO ANNO DNI 1647”. An interesting fact is that the village leader, as the founder of the paintings, was supposed to pose for the image of Christ placed above the door of the sacristy. In the records of the visitation from 1752, it was noted that Father Michał Lorenc made efforts to renew this polychrome.

At the beginning of the 20th century, due to efforts of Michał Nyualsi, a new brick temple was built in Trybsz. Furnishings of the wooden church were moved to the new temple. Only the rococo pulpit from the second half of 18th century and procession floats from the 18th and 19th centuries remained. Since then, the historic church began to fall into ruin. In 1924, the tower and sacristy were dismantled. The tower had sloping walls surrounded at the bottom by an apron, and an overhanging starling covered with a shingle roof. In 1938, further parts of the building were secured against dismantling. During the construction works, the church was elevated and located on a foundation, the structure was reinforced with perpends, and the walls and the ridge turret were shingled. Following works were carried out in 1953-1956, 1972-1976. Within recent years, 2010-2012 the structure of the church and paintings were subject to thorough renovation. During the inventory of monuments by Wojewódzki Urząd Ochrony Zabytków, a valuable sculpture was discovered which depicted Piet from 17th century. Unfortunately it is not known whether it is still possessed by the parish. Moreover in the temple there was a wing of the triptych with presentation of Ecce Homo from around middle 16th century and a painting of Saint Elisabeth from the same period, constituting a middle part of the triptych. Currently, these monuments are located in a new parish church.
