The painting was created in the mid-19th century and there are indications that its author was Teodor Baltazar Stachowicz, son and apprentice of well-known Cracovian artist Michał Stachowicz. The canvas shows a scene from the legend according to which Saint Nicholas saves poor daughters from shameful work, giving them gold to be their future dowry.
