The painting of St. Martin was created probably in the second half of the 19th century, but before 1883, as it was mentioned in the church inventory drawn up in that year. St. Martin is depicted in episcopal garb, because he was elected a Bishop of Tours in Gaul. In his iconography, the virtue of mercy is most often emphasised, like in the picture in question, which depicts the moment of him sharing his coat (a cope) with a beggar.
