Abstract

The Confraternity of the Holy Rosary has existed at the parish of Gdów since 1598, however, the painting of Our Lady of the Rosary was most probably created in the first half of the 18th century, intended for the side (Brethren's) altar. The painting of Our Lady of the Rosary Gdów imitates the Roman icon of Salus Populi Romani (Our Lady of the Snows). The image of Our Lady of the Snows has become a model for the representations of Our Lady of the Rosary from the end of the 16th century, due to its association with the cult of the Rosary, which, over time, has started to function as a brotherly image as well.
