Abstract

The high altar might have been made by Antoni and Ignacy Kornecki in the fourth quarter of the 18th century, or only by one of them. In the third quarter of the 19th century, new paintings (most of them painted by Wojciech Eljasz) were placed in the altar, and perhaps gates with 17th-century statues were added at that time. The high altar in the church in Biskupice bears strong resemblances to the types of architectural structures with a stepped arrangement of supports (made in the Kornecki family workshop) supporting the entablature, which stand out in comparison to works created at the same time in Lesser Poland.
