Abstract

The sculpture of undetermined authorship and the exact time of the creation represents the crucified Jesus. It refers to the method of showing the Saviour's dead body, which began in the Middle Ages, emphasising his suffering and death by showing his wounds and head falling inertly. The name "crucifix" comes from the Latin word "crucifixus" and means "nailed to the cross."
