Abstract

The figures of St. Wenceslaus and St. Florian were created in the fourth quarter of the 18th century. They were then re-mounted on both sides of the high altar in Niepołomice. These works are characterised by an incredibly high level of workmanship, which is not characteristic of the works of sculptors operating in Cracow at that time. Wenceslaus was a historical figure. He is considered a saint and martyr. He was the son of the Czech prince Vratislav I, after the death of whom he assumed the throne. He died in the church in Stary Bolesławiec at the hands of the emissaries of his brother, Boleslaw.
