Abstract

The statues of St. John of Nepomuk and St. John Cantius were made together with the whole high altar in the 1750s (before 1759), most probably in the workshop of the Kornecki family. Saint John of Nepomuk was a canon of the Collegiate Church of St. Giles in Prague, which is why he is portrayed in attire corresponding to this position. Most often he is depicted as a man adoring crucifix held in his hand, as in the sculpture in question.
