The painting "St. Didacus of Alcalá" was painted in 1944 by Stefan Chmiel, an artist who also taught in multiple schools in Wieliczka. Inferring from the shape of the work, it was originally intended for the main area of one of the side altars. This could have happened during the conservation of the altars in the Franciscan church, during which a part of the paintings was replaced with new ones. The subject of the piece is a scene from the legend of the saint Franciscan monk's life who would heal the diseased by dipping his finger in a lamp standing in front of a painting of Virgin Mary.
