Abstract

The sculpture featuring a characteristically S-shaped silhouette, very curly hair and voluminously draped garments was created in the second half of the 18th century and bears the characteristic features of the Rococo. Saint Anne was was presented in a traditional iconographic convention, as a senile woman in a long dress. According to various accounts, she came from a family of priests which settled in Betlehem. Being already of advanced age, with her husband, Joachim, she prayed and was granted the miracle of child, Virgin Mary.
