Abstract

The altar together with the painting of Virgin Mary was most probably made in the 1760s by the Kornecki workshop to the Cistercian church in Mogiła. In 1948 the whole altar was moved to the church of the Missionaries of La Salette dedicated to St. Norbert at Wiślna Street in Cracow, and in 2006 to a new church in Tokarnia. The formal features of the painting correspond to the repertoire used by Piotr Kornecki. The theme of Madonna and the Child and Saint John the Baptist depicted as a child is not supported in Scripture, and the figure of the latter has a symbolic meaning.
