The history of the sculpture, as well as its author remain unknown. The work may have been created in the 19th century. Originally, probably it constituted furnishings of one of the altars, for example the crowning of a tabernacle. Illustration of the Lamb of God (Latin Agnus Dei) derived from the words of the Saint John the Baptist referring to Christ and presented in the Gospel of Saint John: "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world" (Jn 1, 29). The figure of the Lamb symbolizes Christ and his Sacrifice of the Cross (Is 53, 7).
