Abstract

Cult of Our Lady of the Scapular in a church in Zembrzyce dates back to 1666 - to the moment when the Scapular Brotherhood was established on 8th August. The painting was inserted into an altar in the 19th century. Perhaps it replaced the former representation of Our Lady of the Scapular. The depicted scene is an illustration of the tradition of the Carmelite Order according to which on the night of 15 to 16 July 1251, the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Simon Stock in the Carmelite Monastery in Cambridge, holding a scapular in her hands and conveying the Caramelite monk information about the privileges that those who will wear it, will experience.
