The statues of St. Paul and Peter were most likely made after 1783. They were probably re-placed in the high altar, perhaps due to its alteration. Saint Paul was originally named Saul and was a zealous persecutor of Christians until his conversion. He suffered a martyr's death by decapitation with a sword, which is why it is his attribute.
