An unknown author painted the image of St. Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, who lived at the turn of the 3rd and 4th century. The attributes in the painting refer to the legends associated with the saint's life. The episcopal garb means his pastoral mission (while he was the Bishop of Myra in Lycia) and the three half-naked boys in a wooden tub refer to the legend of saving three drowning young men by St. Nicholas.
