The statues of Saint John the Evangelist and Virgin Mary were made after 1783. Their iconography suggests that originally they may have been located where the gothic crucifix is presented - together they created the Crucifixion Group. In iconography, St. John is depicted as a young man as, according to tradition, he was considered to be the youngest and, therefore, most beloved disciple of Christ.
