Probably, the painting was produced at the turn of the 17th and 18th century and it was an altar painting. The painting shows Saint John the Baptist – a hermit, prophet, son of Zechariah and Elisabeth. Saint preached about the need for repentance and prepared the way for the coming of the Messiah. Both a cross with the inscription "ECCE AGNUS DEI QUI TOLLIT PECC[ATA]" and a lamb are his attributes - referring to a scene described in the Gospel of Saint John. Unfortunately, the author of the work remains unknown.
