Abstract

The sculpture of Saint Adalbert was made by an anonymous artist in the first half of 17th century, after 1615, and then it was placed on the high altar in the church of Saint Catherine in Krzeszów that was built in 1613-1615 under the foundation of Piotr Komorowski. The sculpture was moved from the old church to the new one, built in the period of 1901-1903. It depicts Saint Stanislaus who was born around 1030 in Szczepanów. Due to a conflict with king Bolesław II the Generous, he was murdered by the king's order in 1079 during a Mass in the Church of St. Michael on Skałka. He was a Bishop of Cracow and a martyr. He is one of the main patrons of Poland. In the work in question, at St. Stanislaus' feet there is a sculpture of Piotrowin, which refers to the legend of the resurrection of the deceased by the bishop.
