Abstract

The painting "Virgin Marty of Immaculate Conception" was created at the turn of 17th/18thcentury and was placed on the altar under the same invocation in the church of Saint Catherine in Krzeszów. After demolishion of the church, the painting was relocated to a newly built temple of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Krzeszów that was built in 1901-1903. Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception was depicted in a traditional iconographic tradition, in reference to the words of John's Book of Revelation. The symbol of the moon under Mary's feet is ambiguous. Usually, it is regarded as a symbol of evil. According to the commentators of the Apocalypse, the horns of the moon should face downwards, since from the top it was lighted by sun that the Woman was wearing.
