The author of the work in question and the exact date of its creation remain unknown. The painting was donated by Michalina Pieniążkowa, probably between 1925 and 1931, when works on finishing and furnishing the temple in Bachowice were in progress. The work depicts Mary Magdalene under the cross who cuddles against the breast of Christ Crucified. In iconography, Mary is often portrayed as a woman kneeling before the Christ Crucified hugging his feet. An oil vessel is her attribute. It refers to the scene of washing feet of Christ and reminds bringing the fragrant oils to his tomb for anointing of the body. The painting in question uses a slightly different iconographic formula applying certain sensuality typical of the baroque representations of Mary Magdalene.
