The painting was created in the second half of the 18th century. It was given to the church of St. Sebastian on August 29, 1849 by Erazm Windakiewicz, where it has been until today. The painting is characterised by a tenebrist style, referring directly to the Holy Bible text, illustrating the moment of Christ's death on the cross, during which darkness fell upon all the land for several hours.
