Abstract
The painting depicts the scene of the flagellation of Christ, which was described in the three Gospels. The figure of Christ in the painting in question was composed on a black background to emphasise the mysticism of the work and pay special attention to the martyred Saviour. The painting was probably painted in the 17th century, but unfortunately the archival sources do not reveal the author of the work.
