Abstract

The painting of St. John of Nepomuk is presented at the altar finial which was created after 1718, funded by the Grabowski family from Wieliczka, as well as other townsmen and local miners. Unfortunately, the author of the piece is unknown. The central part of the composition presents St. John of Nepomuk who was a canon at St. Giles Collegiate Church in Prague. Thus, in the picture he is presented in attire in accordance with this dignity. He is frequently depicted to be adoring the crucifix he is holding in his hand. In his right hand, he is also holding a palm twig which refers to his martyr's death in 1393.
