Abstract

The altar for the chapel of the Virgin Mary, together with statues of St. Anne and St. Joachim, was built before 1765. Most likely it was made in the workshop of the Kornecki family of Gdów. The statue is closely related to the iconographic programme of the altar centered around the statue of Mary, whose image is presented in the main area. Saint Anne was portrayed as a mature woman, because, because thanks to her prayers, she became a mother of a child – Mary – in old age (according to tradition). She is most often depicted with her husband – St. Joachim.
