The crucifix originates from the first wooden church in Raba Wyżna, built in 1581, and was later transferred to a new, brick temple. The crucifix corresponds to statues of the Christ Crucified, which were created in the 16th century. The formal artistic means used were to emphasise the suffering and corporeality of the Saviour's Passion, constituting a strong emotional stimulus for the faithful.
