The sculpture of St. John the Baptist was created in the third quarter of the 18th century as one of the elements of the sculptural set of the high altar in the church of St. Valentine in Krempachy. Unfortunately, archival sources do not reveal its author. Undoubtedly, it was made by one of the Spiš artists who were fond of the dominance of figural and ornamental sculpture over painting in works of small architecture. The sculpture depicts St. John the Baptist, the hermit, prophet, son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, who was a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Saint preached about the need for repentance and prepared the way for the coming of the Messiah.
