Mystical Wedding of Saint Catherine (Painting)

Abstract

The painting that depicts Mystical Wedding of Saint Catherine was originally located in the high altar of previous church under the invocation of Saint Catherine in Krzeszów. Similarly to two other works in this church (paintings of Saint Stephen and of Virgin and Child with Saint Anne), it was created in the second half of 17th century in an unknown painting workshop. The scene presented there is an expression of very interesting form of devotion -mystical one, based on attempt to directly contact God through personal experience.
