Abstract

The high altar of the St. Anne's Church in Cracow was made by Baltazar Fontana and his workshop in 1695-1703. It belongs to the most outstanding examples of street furniture and sculpture in Polish art. Fontana used a number of motifs taken from Roman art: twisted columns from St. Peter's confession in the Vatican Basilica, a radiant aureole from St. Peter's throne in the same basilica. Even statues of St. Stanislaus and St. Adalbert remind the Church Fathers holding St. Peter's throne in the Vatican temple.
