Abstract

The painting "Crucifixion" was painted in the 18th century by an unidentified artist. It presents the culmination of Christ's passion which was most accurately described in the Gospel of Saint John (Jn, 17-29). The dying one is a strong dominant and the central point of the composition. Christ was portrayed as "Christus Triumphans", he does not hang inertly - he is dead, but remains in divine exaltation.
