According to the parish chronicles, the painting was made by "the daughter of the previous painter" - the daughter of Wilhelm Włoch, whose name is unknown. The scene was to display an event from the life of both saints, when St. Thomas visited Bonaventure in his cell, while the latter was busy with one of his works and asked him what the source of his knowledge was. Bonaventure pointed to the crucifix saying: "this is my library" ("haec est mea biblioteca").
