Abstract

The baroque solid sculpture of the Risen Christ, placed in the finial of the high altar, was first mentioned in the church inventory made in 1860, but it might have been placed there earlier — during the enrichment of the temple's decor at the beginning of the 18th century. Most likely, the sculpture was originally an individual statue intended to be placed on the altar during the Easter period. This is indicated by the full development of the back of the sculpture, which, if intended for the altar, would probably be hollow. The statue was probably renovated during works on the renovation of the altar carried out in 1850 from funds written in the will by father Szymon Warmusiński and in 1943 by painter Józef Ryłka, but this is not confirmed by sources. In the years 1993–1996, during a thorough renovation of the high altar, the sculpture underwent restoration works.
