Abstract

The painting of Our Lady of the Snows in the parish church in Bieńkówka was placed in the middle of the high altar. Iconographically, it is modelled on the popular representation of Our Lady of the Rosary from the Dominican church in Cracow, which is a copy of the Roman prototype - miraculous painting of Our Lady of the Snows, called Salus Populi Romani from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. This image is strongly associated with the rosary service. In the Republic of Poland, it is represented by numerous copies. Some of them have been brought directly from Rome. Unfortunately, the origin and authorship of the image in Bieńkówka is unknown.
