Abstract

The name "crucifix" comes from the Latin word "crucifixus" and means "nailed to the cross." Presentation of Crucifixion, reduced only to the form of dead Christ on a cross is to make the viewers aware of His loneliness during his suffering. It represents Christ in the Cristo morte type - i.e. as deceased with closed eyes and parted lips. Originally, the crucifix along with the entire temple, built in 1733 was located in Przytkowice. Since the crucifix is older than the church in question, it probably comes from previous temple in Przytkowice. The sculpture was created probably in the early 16th century. The figure is characterised by certain rigidity of silhouette with strongly stressed lines of ribs and breastbone.
