Abstract

A two-sided procession float in its current condition is a heterogeneous work, composed in the 19th century. For this purpose, two independent paintings depicting Madonna and the Child were used, which were cropped, sticked on a panel, repainted and installed in a new, 19th-century frame (currently replaced with a new one). Restoration work carried out at the turn of 1996 and 1997 by prof. Schuster-Gawłowska enabled to determine that both paintings – Madonna and the Child (described as "in the type of Madonna of Częstochowa") on the obverse and the painting of "Blessed Virgin with the Child and little sceptre" on the reverse of the procession float are works from the 17th century. The painting on the obverse was probably made around the mid-17th century, the painting on the reverse is a good work of art dated around 1630.
