Abstract

The pulpit was built in the third quarter of the 18th century, probably shortly after the church was built in 1761. Its structure is typical of the pulpits from the second half of the 18th century and was used by many sculptors at that time, e.g. the decoration of the pulpit's backboard with a suspended curtain and a pelmet under the canopy was used by Wojciech Rojowski. The painting of St. John of Nepomuk on the pulpit's backboard is attributed to Szymon Kawalski, a Polish painter active in the Spiš region since the 1760s. A canopy intrados is decorated with the relief with the representation of the Holy Spirit in a form of a dove with the radiant aureole in the background. It symbolizes the inspiration of the Holy Spirit the one who speaks. The pulpit, on the other hand, is crowned with a sculpture of Michael the Archangel victorious over Satan.
