The monument of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus was funded and designed by Sebastian Sierakowski – an architect, clergyman, community worker and politician. It was made in 1822-1823 by Jan Nepomucen Gall (sculptural and stone parts) and Antoni Arkusiński (author of a disc). The monument belongs to numerous examples of art commemorating distinguished Poles during the period of national captivity.
