Abstract

A stoup is a tank for holy water placed in the vestibule of the church, usually in the porch. Stoups were made of marble, natural stone or artificial stone. This stoup was made in the Baroque tradition. The decoration, known as chasing, placed on the bowl of the stoup, was characteristic especially of the art in the 16th and 17th centuries, but it also appeared in later periods.
